Kalkan is a town on the Turkish Mediterranean coast. This is an ancient fishing village. Most of the surrounding area is undeveloped. Until 1970 it was an important seaport. Good dining has always been a tradition of Kalkan and this is reflected in the very large number of restaurants in Kalkan, in fact it is said, Kalkan has probably the highest number of restaurants per capita compared to other Turkish coastal towns. Roof terrace restaurants and bars of Kalkan is known in Turkey, it is so nice to sit at one of these port side restaurants and watch pleasure boats and fishermen in their work in the morning, or to see them back in the evening with their catch of fish.

By night Kalkan transforms into a bustling city that is so much you can do. There is shopping, restaurants and generally strolling around at the sea side or do window shopping. In the evening comes alive with stores in T-shirts, boxes of Turkish delight, silver jewelry sold. Turkish carpets are famous for their design and craftsmanship, and many shops selling carpets. Tourists find a lot of typical old-style Turkish items to buy.

Tourists and visitors to Kalkan village come to enjoy the relaxed casual lifestyle in this Turkish sanctuary. There are a few good hotels catering to tourists. One of the most popular hotels, Hotel Pirat, it is only 80 km from Fathiye or 130 km from Dalaman airport.
